Phin VanKouwenhoven is a multimedia artist based in the pacific northwest. Through painting, printmaking, and sculpture, their work explores the idea of beauty, visible even amidst desolution, disrepair, and decay. For Phin, Artmaking allows for a flexibility from spoken language - the possibility of silence as a way to communicate, sounds and ideas conjured through their explorations of absence. Each body of work is composed of various attempts at translating their experience of a quickly changing world. Each aspect of their own creative process affords them different lenses through which to view places touched by human lives.
